Organic farms large and small dot the landscape. Yolo County has a total acreage of 661, 760 acres and 550, 407 of those acres are still farmland. The county ranks 24th among California’s fifty-eight counties in gross agricultural sales, and is 13th in the state for wine grape acreage.
It ships agricultural commodities to 96 different countries around the world, and is the number one county, nationwide, in direct sales. Its top crop, processing tomatoes, has held that honor since 1960, and in 2006, Yolo County Agriculture Department became an organic certifying agency. There are only three such governmental agencies in the state. Yolo County is a truly diverse agricultural powerhouse.
