February 24 All day in Esparto, Capay, Brooks, Guinda & Rumsey
The first Capay Valley Almond Festival was held in 1915, ninety-three years ago. Today it has molded itself into the largest, one day, and multi-town festival in Yolo County. Because the almond blossoms are such a beautiful sight to see, the festival takes place in February, when the blossoms are open. The Almond Festival has been held on the last Sunday of February for many years. The event takes place in the entire Yolo County Region west of I-505 and has a local and regional following. The schedule is multi-tiered and begins on Saturday February 16th with a Queen's Dinner Pageant at the Guinda Grange. There is a dinner and raffle, with outstanding prizes. It is one of the most celebrated dinner/auctions in the Valley. It is hosted by the Western Yolo Grange and the Rumsey Improvement Association. The winner of the pageant receives a scholarship and prizes. Tickets are available for purchase at the Esparto District Chamber of Commerce 530-787-3242.
The Capay Valley Almond Festival 2008 will be in the towns of Esparto, Capay, Brooks, Guinda and Rumsey. Entertainment, crafts, good food and fun for all members of the family are provided. It is a wonderful time to see the beauty of the whole Capay Valley and to meet many of the wonderful people who live and work in the area.
