Seasonal Menu for November

The walnuts, almonds, prunes, processing tomatoes, and rice are in now, with only olives left to harvest and press into oil. However, the market farmers in Capay Valley, the edges of West Sacramento, Davis, and Winters, have acres and acres full of leeks, greens, escarole, cabbages, cauliflower and more, ready to supply us with locally grown food throughout the coming months. Sweet potatoes harvested in early fall are stored, along with bins of pie pumpkins and other winter squash. The centerpiece meal of November is Thanksgiving, of course, but the month, with its cooling weather and chill on the air encourages the gathering of friends and family on other occasions as well.
